A short domain is a brand surface
A dedicated short domain appears in places where a full website address is too long or visually noisy. It should still feel unmistakably connected to the organization sharing it.
Choose a domain that is easy to read, pronounce, and distinguish from lookalikes. The shortest possible name is not automatically the clearest or safest choice.
Ownership needs an ongoing lifecycle
Domain verification is only the start. DNS changes, certificate renewal, account transfers, and expiration all affect whether shared links remain trustworthy. Teams need visible status and clear responsibility for each domain.
A platform should re-check ownership when important DNS state changes and prevent the same hostname from being claimed by multiple workspaces.
Keep root behavior deliberate
Decide what happens when someone visits the short domain without an alias or follows an unknown path. A safe root destination and a useful not-found response protect both visitors and the brand.
Loop detection matters here. Root and fallback destinations should never point back into a cycle that traps the browser.
